When our local amateur dramatic society were struggling to choose a script for their next pantomime, my wife and I teamed up to deliver the goods. We didn’t want to produce a new version of a story that had been written hundreds of times already, so we came up with a plot involving nursery rhyme characters and named the show Ba Ba Land. We wanted to make sure the show had all our favourite pantomime elements, including a ghost, a chase scene and plenty of audience participation. Fiona had great fun with the brilliant rhyming couplets, leaning on her experience of writing rhyming picture books, leaving me to pen the puns. And we didn’t even fall out while writing it! The show’s first run had rave reviews, and made us want to do more!
Since then, we’ve also produced a pirate-based script called Peggy’s Pirate Panto, a mash-up of Treasure Island, Pirates of the Caribbean and Peter Pan. Peggy wants to follow in the footsteps of her late pirate mother and recover her fabulous lost treasure, but her father wants to keep her safe. Sadly for him, the wicked pirate Captain Crook needs Peggy to get that treasure.
Our third script is a new take on the George & The Dragon myth. Princess Poppy must marry a suitable suitor, like a knight, but she loves George. He can’t become a knight unless he kills a dragon, which neither he nor Poppy wants. Plus there’s a wicked witch holding the kingdom hostage over heating.
Our latest script is called Panto Raiders of the Lost Tome. The wicked Count De Monet has plans to demolish the library and build flats in its place. Can Dame Dusty Shelves, her heroic son Hunter, and Paige, find a lost treasure in time to save the library?
All scripts have now been published with Lazy Bee Scripts. If you are looking for a funny, modern take on a pantomime that’s family friendly and a plot that’s just a little bit different, why not visit the Lazy Bee website to check out our scripts and current licensing fees?
